6th Annual North Star Luncheon

Chief Relationship Officer at Communities Foundation of Texas and former reporter Calvert Collins-Bratton will return as Emcee to host what promises to be a truly inspiring conversation with Guest Speaker Antwone Fisher.

Fisher is an award-winning screenwriter and director including the 2002 major motion picture film Antwone Fisher, a New York Times bestselling author of two novels, U.S. Navy veteran, and renowned poet, storyteller, and advocate for children. After his own time in the foster care system, which included being placed with an abusive foster family, Fisher became a passionate advocate for children, raising awareness about the adoption and foster care systems, and sharing his personal journey cultivating resilience, self-worth, and overcoming obstacles to lay a foundation for success. Fisher was named one of Variety’s “Fifty People to Watch” and one of Fade In’s “100 People in Hollywood You Need to Know.” In 2013, he testified before the Senate Finance Committee, at a hearing titled: “The Antwone Fisher Story as a Case Study for Child Welfare.”

Honorary Chair Helen Holman has served in many notable leadership positions throughout her career dedicated to creating bright futures for children. As an engaged community member, she has supported Family Compass for many years and served as a member of our Advisory Committee.

Neva Cochran will be honored with this year's North Star Award. As an award-winning registered dietitian nutritionist, she believes all families deserve access to safe and nutritious food and the resources to purchase, prepare and eat healthful meals. This fits perfectly with her passion for Family Compass and building healthy families.
